Ceramics: The De-Constructed Cube

Create & Produce
- Apply your working understanding about the relationships between SHAPES and FORMS by predicting the outcome of your choices
- Create a plan for which you will follow specific steps in building a work of art, by completing an ACTION PLAN.
Today we will start our third project of the semester (whew, time flies) and while there will be specific things you will need to think about on this one, I would like you think about…Why is it important for an artist to choose a plan CAREFULLY as they are developing a composition / artwork? What might the RIGHT choices do to a sculpture versus the “wrong” choices?
Review with neighbors the relationships of the SHAPES to FORMS. When you look at your cube close…what types of FORMS can you see being created by removing / adding clay?
Intro to Art: Lined Shapes
CREATE & RESPOND
- Demonstrate your understanding for LINE by recalling specific and unique characteristics about the element of art.
- Reproduce a class exercise (demonstration) within your own unique work of art. (sketchbook exercise)
What do you recall about LINE? Remember the 3 characteristics discussed last week? (check your sketchbook notes for this one!) Now while we are going to be working on some different color blending techniques in class, I’d like you to think about how you choose colors.
- Why is it important for an artist to choose colors CAREFULLY as they are developing a composition / artwork? What might the RIGHT colors do in an image versus the “wrong” colors? Talk about these ideas with your fellow classmates today in class.
Painting: Wrapping Up Layering Acrylic Paint
CONNECT
- Apply your working understanding about acrylic paint by predicting the outcome of their choices.
- Create a plan for which you will follow specific steps in building a work of art, by completing an ACTION PLAN.
Now we are going to start putting your experiences and practice to work on a personal painting. Don’t forget as you fill out the ACTION PLAN the specific requirements that I will be evaluating for this assignment. We will go through the steps today, but remember that there is specific things that you will be responsible for through the week that we work on this.
REMEMBER, we will be starting our new painting tomorrow and there are many different items that you will be responsible for in starting / completing this painting. Our theme is a bit unique, so make sure as you look for images to use as reference you are keeping in mind the steps we took on our classroom exercise.
Drawing: GRID Drawing
PRODUCE
Review the various items and markings on a ruler and be able to describe their (RULER) function/meaning.
Apply your understanding for GRID DRAWING by demonstrating their drawing skills within a classroom exercise.
We are going to take a step by step look at drawing from a grid today. I know that many will want to rush through this but I really want to drive the point home that this is not a process that can be RUSHED! As we move through each square, think about what you LIKE / DISLIKE about this technique. What types of uses do you see this having in making your own personal art? What about applying it to real world situations?
