Intro To Art:  Sketchbook Challenge #1 (Wild Card)

  1. DEMONSTRATE your understanding for the procedures of the weekly sketchbook by completing a themed/timed sketch.
  2. SUMMARIZE their opinions of their themed sketch by writing a 4-step critique

So today is your first sketchbook challenge, and more importantly, your first day MAKING something in this class.

Challenge Description:

The key to this activity is that understanding that you are limited to just 45-50 mins of class time to work on solving the THEME for the weekly sketch.  While many of us have these grand ideas of what we will accomplish, once the class comes to a close you will need to have a FINISHED concept/idea which solves theme given for the week.

Draw, sketch, doodle, or write anything you want in your book today.  The “catch” is you will be required to fill the page and have ABSOLUTELY NONE OF YOUR SKETCH PAPER SHOWING once the class is over.

You will get the entire hour to work in your sketchbook.  As class comes to a close, you will be required to take a photograph, and submit your work, digitally using the means by which you chose earlier in the week by filling out the “DIGITAL PROJECT SUBMISSION”  Be sure to keep your social media accounts on “public” or type your name as the title of your email when you submit your work.

REMEMBER TO USE THE HASHTAG #MHSsketchbookCHALLENGE  when posting images on your social media accounts.

Graphic Coms: Introduction to Illustrator Workspace

We are going to take a look at the workspace that the Adobe Illustrator program sets out for the user in preparation for your upcoming PRE-TEST project.

While there isn’t much different from the overall look of the Illustrator program to that of Photoshop, it is important before you start in on creating anything that you are aware of where to find certain and specific functions that the program has for you.

Below you will also find a copy of some basic shortcut key combinations that you can use for Illustrator that may help you when working on basic functions:

Adv. Drawing: Pre-Test Portraiture Drawing

We will be continuing the  three-day Pre-Test process of gauging your portrait drawing abilities.  Keep in mind while this is presented on the surface as just a simple “Pre-Test,”  there are specific things as the instructor that I am looking for to measure each student’s individual ability in sketching from observation.

Over the course of the next 2 days I would like you to internally be asking yourself these questions as you move through the completion of this task:

  • Have you improved your drawings skills over the past few days?
  • What is the biggest success you have accomplished this week?
  • Where are you struggling?
