Intro To Art: Pen and Ink Value Scales

We jump into learning how to create VALUE with pen and ink today to use in our upcoming project.
Last week, we spent some time discussing and practicing exactly how to go about blending/shading better by thinking about CROSS CONTOUR LINES, and today we will discuss and practice what that looks like when we use pen and ink. Be sure to copy down notes on these exercises as we will be starting your 2nd project within the week.

Where do we start this week? So we’ve played around with various drawing styles, learned how to use LINE to create CONTOURS and CROSS CONTOURS, but what does this mean for a final drawing? What comes next? How do we bring additional elements of art into our drawings?
The answer is with VALUE and TEXTURE. This week we will dive into the discussion of VALUE and it’s role in making drawings look three dimensional, while also understanding it’s relationship with TEXTURE.
